So unless you’ve been living in a cave for the past few years, you will have heard of the Apple Watch. Originally released April 24th 2015 the Apple Watch was designed to be the crossover between a smartphone and a watch… Or at least an extension to your smartphone in watch form.
It’s not really good at either of those things
I have a tendency to stay away from first generation anything and the apple watch wasn’t any different. with Wearable Tech being relatively new to the scene I knew the Apple Watch would have plenty of kinks that needed working out before I got my hands on one, such as:
- Nobody had any idea how to buy the fucking things – This was entirely Apples fault only selling them online or in “premium” shops to give the appearance of a Rolex-esque quality.
- It’s not a Rolex, its something that’s going to be outdated by newer more functional models in a year… YET it still had the “premium” price tag that comes along with a timeless classic watch
- hopefully with all that money spent the watch would at least be scratch resistant? NOPE. no more to say here just a big bastard NOPE.
- at least its shatter proof right?!?! right!?? NOPE
That has to be it right?
unfortunately for what could have been a ground breaking product this list just goes on and on. It saps your phone battery people stare at your wrist and it makes you jump when it vibrates because WHAT NORMAL WATCH POKES YOU WHEN YOU HAVE A PISSING TEXT!?
So why do you need an Apple watch?
You don’t. I’ll never beat around the bush unless its your mums on these blog posts so I just said it… And I’ll say it again. You can live without this in your life… IN FACT! Currently, you’ll live better without this in your life!
But wait… Its 2017, 23 years since the Lion King came out, (fkin mental right) is your verdict still the same?
Well, the Apple Watch 3 release date is set for September 2017, being a good few months away I don’t think i can say for sure… But I can be hopeful!
to keep things snappy, if you check out the list above of issues, the opposite would now seem to be true, or so the rumors say! The watch will be scratch resistant, it’s said to have a nice crisp OLED screen covered in heavy duty no scratchy type glass and some of the major issues like battery drainage are already fixed via software updates.
Geek at heart
a smart watch is something I’ve always wanted, I love the idea of being able to talk to people by holding my wrist. its just so James Bond I honestly couldn’t care how much of a prick I might look. SatNav on your wrist… Texts on your your wrist. It’s just another device to help me move less, which obviously I’m all for. But and here’s the big but!
Is 2017 the year to buy an Apple Watch?
Maybe…? I honestly cant say. This is the first time in the 2 years since release that I’ll have even been tempted. and for those of you considering the Apple Watch, the questions you need to be asking yourself are simple.
Will you be happy with a device which may still have some quirks and kinks, but also comes with an abundance of great features you haven’t had chance to experience yet? Let me know below!
