Okay So, I have now had a good 7 – 8 hours game play in Andromeda, I’ve always been a fan of the series so the barrage of negative reviews wasn’t going to stop me from seeing what I thought of this game myself. I’m not going to cover everything but just a few key points.
BORING… But be patient, I don’t get much time to play games between running BAMSays and eSports International so I think me being impatient and just wanting to get into the thick of it may have amplified this. The story just seems to take AGES to get a move on, at the beginning there’s a bit of confusion as to whether you actually need to speak to everyone and there is a LOT of talking to be done, this does benefit you in a number of different ways but i would seriously recommend focusing on the main story line until it at least has you hooked… And it will Hook you!
The Story begins to snowball and you go from long boring conversation to action after action, it’s definitely worth the wait!
Obviously I cant avoid mentioning this one. Unless you’ve been under a rock you will have heard numerous reports of the bad, the ugly and downright weird animations. Unfortunately they’re true! I rebuilt my character THREE TIMES because I thought the reason my characters mouth looked like it was melting and not forming words was down to my poor design. Nope, turns out you can reduce the issue by sticking with one of the pre-made characters but otherwise this is just how it is
its not just in video scenes and conversations where you’ll notice the animation though, you’ll notice your character will get stuck on nothing, glide around and even do this weird little sqautting walk type thing
Does this put me off the game? Again no. I hope they add some updates that improve the issues shortly but even if they don’t, if you’ve ever watched a film that has sub titles in the wrong language below, you’ll know how quickly your brain can learn to ignore them, its the same with the animations, you quickly forget that your character gurning mid conversation isn’t completely normal
Save the best till last right? Hands down I did not expect to love the new combat systems as much as I do, you have a lot of skills, moves and capabilities quite early on in the game which can make it all a bit overwhelming but before you know it you’re flying across the battlefield, into the air, blowing things up and generally causing chaos, it is AMAZING. You’re not tied into any specific class so if you get bored of the way you’re playing, change it.
Should you buy the game?
YES. If you think you can deal with a few imperfections for a while the story and game-play completely makes up for Andromeda downfall. however, even though the games are not connected I would seriously consider playing Mass effect 1-3 if you haven’t already, before getting into andromeda, you can pick them up significantly cheaper than andromeda and they’re a great test bed to see if you actually like the Mass Effect World.
